That One thing you are good at!!

Don’t read success stories, you will get only message. Read failure stories, you will get ideas to be successful.” APJ Abdul Kalam (Former President of India)

World is full of these stories. While growing up we come across these stories and decide what to take from them. I came across this story of Vincent Van Gogh. He was a painter. After years of painful anxiety and frequent bouts of mental illness, he died aged 37 from a gunshot wound. His work was then known to a handful of people. He sold only one painting, “The Red Vineyard,” in his life, and the sale was just months before his death. If he had given up his artistic career after it proved to strain his financial and emotional well being, the art world would be missing hundreds of paintings from a true master. Since his death he has become one of the best painters of the world. When I think of it, I could never have attempted such a thing. I want to be successful but I don’t have that kind of strength. So the story is void to me. But then I wonder Do these stories really help? If yes, to what extent?

You may remain inspired for days, some may even retain it for months but eventually it subsides. What takes its part is what we actually are. I have read all kind of stories. I started with Alchemist by Paul Coelho, then went on to read about APJ Kalam, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, L.N. Mittal and many more. It was until I came across my true inspiration, Cristiano Ronaldo. He ignites passion in me. His story fascinates me.

“Wherever he goes,be it a stadium, an airport or a restaurant, the Portuguese elicits a strong response from onlookers- idolisation, crazed obsession, jealousy, love or hatred. To some he is a hero, to others a villain. To some he is the epitome of modern football, to others he is a decent player and nothing more. To some he is God, to other-the devil. There are some who appreciate his brutal honesty, and those who think he is just plain arrogant. But for Ronaldo, it’s not just about his performance, Messi, scoring goals or winning Ballon d’Or. His true obsession is distinctly more unattainable: the pursuit of perfection.”

I always keep his biography by my side and read it whenever I get time. It keeps me focused. His obsession for his work and perfection in his work amazes me. I wonder if I can ever be that passionate. I am still young. At this age, I have tried my hand at various different things, things some may never attempt simply because it’s unattainable at this age. But that one thing, I am yet to come across. The thing which can instill that kind of passion in me which Ronaldo has for football. I fear I may never come across that one thing.

After all it’s about being at the right place at the right time.

I wonder if Mark Zuckerberg had never met Cameron Winklewoss and Tyler Winklewoss and never got the idea of creating a social networking site. There are millions of people struggling in this world. Some are struggling to find what they are truly good at. Some are struggling to be famous in the thing they are good at.

Frankly I don’t know what will I be doing 10 years from now. What will I be writing? Will it be the part where I am still struggling to discover my true talent or will it be where I am sharing how I discovered it and how I went on to achieve my ultimate dream.

Keep Looking!!
